Impact

Improved comprehension and participation

Situation

A secondary school's maths department found that many KS4 students were struggling to remember the steps involved in solving trigonometry problems. Teachers reported that while pupils could often reach the correct answer with guidance, they lacked confidence and understanding of the underlying process.

Task

Working closely with the school, we set out to design a tool that would help students learn by doing — reinforcing the method behind trigonometry calculations rather than just producing answers. The goal was to support classroom teaching, make learning more interactive, and help students build long-term understanding.

Action

In collaboration with teachers, we co-designed a step-by-step trigonometry calculator. The web-based tool lets students enter their triangle data and see both the correct answer and each stage of the calculation, explained clearly in plain language. The interface was tested with students and refined through teacher feedback to ensure it matched curriculum requirements and classroom practice.

Result

The Trigonometry Trainer has significantly improved student engagement and comprehension. Teachers report greater confidence among learners and increased participation in KS4 maths lessons. The project demonstrated how close collaboration between developers and educators can create practical, classroom-ready tools that make complex topics more accessible.
